Can I grow a sunflower in a container?
I LOVE sunflowers and husband and I are new to the gardening world! I bought a few weeks ago, was about 30cm tall. I left it in the pot it came with. I do not want to plant it outside, the backyard BC are having some problems with the soil (which is almost like clay). Husband is very into Container Gardening (If this is what is called). He bought those big pots from Home Depot and everything seems fine so far. … Well, I had taken my sunflower outside so he can stay in the sun (we had a lovely weekend) and when I went to check the next day, flower is gone. I'm assuming the birds ate: (Anyway. .. I can grow a sunflower in a large pot? I am afraid that will not do well my crappy clay soil! And as I get the birds to leave it flowers alone? In addition, we bought a corn plant, little last night. We can grow in a pot? Thanks
Be careful what you say on its soil, because it is full of tiny creatures called microbes that make a lot of work there every day! In fact, all types of soils, clays may be the most fertile, which explains why the best farmland in the United States is considered clay soil. What does "shit" is that the particles are so small they fit so well that you can shape it into a pot! This makes it difficult and hard to dig for water and not drain well. So, the trick crappy to earthen clay is great to open it and add lots of organic matter. You can do this on a large scale, or you can make a pit at once. The best material for mixing with the clay is made – lots of it! If you want to grow sunflowers Mammoth grows a forest of them in the soil outdoors where they feed all the natural fertility there. It's a fun way to get really cheap outdoor gardening. Start seeds in pots. Dig out a large hole about two meters depth and width for each plant. They mix the soil you remove with an equal amount of compost or planter mix, then put it back on. Plant your seeds or seedlings in that mix again and you will have huge plans this summer that will dwarf those grown in containers.
