Unfailing Love
"If Christ had not gone to the cross and suffered in our place, just for the unjust, it was not a spark of hope for us. There would have been a mighty gulf between us and God, which no man could have passed. "JC Ryle, The Cross
Today I want to tell you a story about bad choices, hard consequences, unfailing love and redemption.
There were once two brothers, Cain and Abel. God knew that much well, because they were the first born of the sons of Adam and Eve, who had walked in the garden with the Lord. Adam and Eve chose to follow his own path and because of their choices they had to leave the garden. But God still loved them, as He did Cain and Abel.
As part of its new life outside the Garden, the brothers offer a sacrifice to the Lord for – to remind them that leads to rebellion and death as an offering of love. God asked them to bring a lamb. Abel, wanting to please God had bought the best lamb from his flock, Cain grew abundant crops and could have changed some of its products to bring a lamb for God. But he refused. He wanted to make the things his way so he bought some beans.
Abel's sacrifice was blessed, Cain was not. Rather than learn from it and resolve to bring a sacrifice better next time, Cain was very angry. He was angry with God and jealous of his brother, the killer jealous. Instead of taking responsibility for their own actions and resolution please the Lord, he became the strength of his anger against his brother. Eventually, he attracted a secret place for Abel and killed him. He plotted and planned and committed the first murder recorded in the Bible. Rebellion leads to death.
Later, the Lord asked Cain where Abel was – an opportunity for Cain to take responsibility for their actions – instead of Cain chose Am replica with the infamous words' I my brother's keeper? ". I do not know where he is, he's not my fault because I must tell you. With these words, Cain sever all relationships with God and your family. Thereafter, he roamed the land cursed, afraid and alone. Rebellion leads to death.
But the Lord is not cut, His love is eternal and He is able to bring new life death. Many years later, Jesus is invited to a wedding in the land of Canaan. The land where Cain who shed the blood of his brother had been restless and alone. Now Jesus goes here. He is in a wedding, a place where God, family and love are celebrated. That day, he turns water into wine.
Wine, which will to signify the blood that He shed on the cross. Wine as a symbol of his sacrifice that once and for all destroy the hold of death that comes from rebellion. His blood in place of the lamb, their blood in place of Abel. His blood for those who roam the earth with fear and can go home.
Rebellion leads to death. He offered us His love. He offered us his life. What will we choose?
'For this is the original message that we heard: We must love one another. We should not be like Cain, who joined the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he kill? Because he was deep in the practice of evil as the acts of his brother were righteous. 1 John 3 v11-13, The Message
