Gardening Containers Pots

Tomatoes can be grown in closed containers?

I miss my big beef tomatoes fresh from the garden. I really like to grow some this summer. I know I will need from them soon if I'm going to get a good harvest. The problem is that I live in an apartment without a balcony so it must be grown indoors, although I have a nice sunny window where you can put them. Nobody has grown tomatoes in a container indoors? Does a commercial potting soil (like the walmart) change the taste?

I grew cherry tomatoes and roma tomatoes on a window, but I must add that it was a bay window, so that the light was very good. tomatoes need at least eight hours a day, direct sunlight, if your window can provide that, then try it. they probably will not grow so big and strong like a tomato in air free not produce a harvest so plentiful, but you will still have enough to make it useful. I think you'd do better to stick with a smaller range of growth, a variety of Bush would be better than a window into the types of climbing. potting soil will work fine as long as you fertilize with a tomato fertilizer. PS: if you can collect rainwater for use in irrigation, they will do much better.
