Gardening Italian Cypress

How do I go about my transplant trees and shrubs?

Recently I used a lawn mower to clear a 60 foot by 4-meter area of a plot flowers. 2 inches down I started looking to see clay compacted soil (I live in northeast Houston Texas). I bought some blue point junipers, Italian cypress, a arbo gold and some other junipers in variety two feet that are yellow on top (sorry I do not remember the names of people). People at the store recommended mix garden. I do not know how high to build the area, and I do not know if I should plant the trees and others before me or not (it seems I should.) What is the best soil for these and how should I go about transplanting? Thanks in advance.

Before planting anything, you will need to amend your soil. If you have time, consider getting your soil tested to see what's missing nutrients. A soil test will also tell you what type of soil you have. (Send your testing ground for the A & M. Here's the link: http://soiltesting.tamu.edu.) If you're going organic (which is the only way to go) the best thing to do is to batch and lots of well-rotted manure. The compound can be purchased at your local home improvement store. Composite does a great job to improve the levels of nutrients, improving drainage and providing "food" for your plants and trees. Once you have your trees on the ground, give them a good soak and then cover with a high quality natural mulch. I like to use premium wood covers. I think these break down easily in the soil (as opposed to chemically treated mulches) and do not wash with large rains. Here's another good link Organic Gardening Magazine that explains a good "solo" and how to get it: http://organicgardening.com/channel/1, s1-3, 00.html Hope that helps!
