Gardening Mystery

Common house mice, field mice, rats and mice garden can be a major source of suffering in a hosta garden. They are more interested in your hostas during the colder seasons, when the hostas are dormant. The crown of the hosta in this case serves as a hearty meal for winter rats. Damage to the crown can cause your hostas die. So we want to prevent pests like rats from damaging our plants.

There are several ways you can resolve this situation. One of the ways more effective is to simply have a cat or two. Cats are field mice or garden worst enemy. Most people who have gardens hosta have had success simply amazing leaving one policeman cat your hosta garden. Even a cat or a stuffed scarecrow cat of some kind can operate in a limited way.

Another solution is to put an emitter of high frequency sound in the garden. However a downside to this is that while it may keep the rats away it can also keep any other animals away, and earthworms that aerate the soil, and birds singing. These devices are also uncomfortable for most pets to be around as dogs and cats are super sensitive to the issuers of high frequency sound. However, another problem with these is that they do not seem to work in all rats. It's as if all kinds of parasites are developing resistance to sound.

A natural poison to the common field mice is the castor oil pellets. These can also be purchased at garden shops or hardware sections of pest control. You can also find the outdoor type small packets of rats / Poison rat. These are effective in outdoor conditions that may be wet and / or due to wet weather.

You can also try to locate their nests and destroy them. Mouse nests are usually full of seeds. Sometimes the rats are also coming from his house. Block all holes in your house outdoors can also help your problem with worms.

Another option is to buy small traps that are small enough to trap mice, but not let others animal inside the trap This style is widely available in hardware stores and garden shops. The poison bait is in and the door closed when it hits metal box the bait is taken.

One tactic to prevent you can take is to put the crowns of hostas in his very fine wire mesh that has holes of three eighths inch or less to keep the rats away hostas during the winter. Another solution is to completely remove the hostas and replant them in pots, ceramic protection that has a hole in the bottom for extra drainage.

He is an ugly choice, but of course it works. If mice are still chewing your hostas after all this, then you may have no choice but to have your garden spray for rodents. However, this is not an ecologically friendly or human friendly practice.

A small dose of prevention goes a long way to help prevent the rats from damaging the hostas. Anytime I find rodent damage that immediate action by applying the small parcels of mice bait I find one of the local hardware stores such as Home Depot or Menards. Personally I like to use the marbles red, but green pellets appear to be effective as well.
