Outdoor Gardening Statues
Fall is here which means winter is around the corner. For those of us who live in such a wonderful state that has four distinct seasons and winters are cold, below zero, preparing for winter is a bit more work. We live for our beautiful summers when we can enjoy water fountains outdoor on our platform and in our gardens, gardening time, even getting new garden statues of fun that we enjoy every day. But before the Deep Freeze there are some important things you should do if you have sources or outdoor garden statues.
Cast stone, glass and ceramic materials are most used in exterior decoration, materials that are durable and lightweight enough to handle without much difficulty. These materials are made to withstand the elements, but if it gets wet, freezes and melts it can crack. Below is a "how to" guide to sources for keeping your garden statuary and crack free and beautiful this winter so when spring comes, you can start enjoying!
If size allows simply drain your fountain and bring it to your garage or shed. Differentiated with sources that you can sometimes disassemble them to store them. With large external sources or sources of heavy stone cast this is not always possible, so that you will want to take other steps to winterize your source.
- Before the time of freezing is to drain all the water from its source. This is the thing most important thing you can do.
- Remove the pump source, if possible, and store it indoors. This is a great time to clean the pump thoroughly to debris, algae and dirt will not sit on and the pump all winter.
- It is recommended that you purchase a source to cover your garden statues or sources. This will keep moisture out. outside source covers are waterproof and UV stabilized and have a drawstring at the bottom end for protection. They also come in various sizes so you should not have trouble finding one that fits the size of its source or statues.
- If you do not want to cover your outside source you must put some kind of blankets, towels or other absorbent material in the basin from its source and layers. Water must not enter the source and freeze as will with the source of crack.
Hopefully these tips can help prepare for winter. The source coverage will last for years and may be the best investment you can do to keep your garden fountains and beautiful statues for many years.
