Books that go into detail on vegetable plants and flowers?
I'm looking for a book or two that will go into detail about the serious Plants, Flowers and Herbs. Im not concerned each category has in his book. What I'm looking for is a book that describes how to start each plant from seed or bulb, the amount of water that each one needs, fertilizer to use if any, moisture, temperature, pests and diseases, the pH level of soil needed, how long it takes to germinate, as time to mature, etc. .. I want detailed information about each plant, each flower, each weed. Vegetable Gardening For Dummies I have. If you can point me to some books I'll be grateful.
If you are a novice gardener, I suggest a book called Square Foot Gardening for vegetables and herbs. Even if you decide to garden traditional lines, the information contained in this book is solid and easy to understand. For flowers, find a book that is written for your area of the country. Its State Horticultural Society probably has a site with suggestions. Otherwise, ask your local bookstore or library. It sounds as if you may be more worrying the whole thing in gardening. Really not that hard: Read the back of the package of seeds for planting basic instructions and do what he says. Ensure its light plants respond to their precise location in the garden, keep it watered and fertilized and you will have healthy plants. Keep in mind that it could be cheaper and easier to buy some types of seedlings and plants at the garden store, which is to grow them from seed. Besides this detail (severe) is not really necessary unless you plan on entering the nursery business.
